I think one of the most common facts known to the general public about Vombatidae is that their feces is cube shaped. This may be simply due to their pouch, though the exact cause is not known. Their pouch faces in the backward direction which prevents dirt from getting in there while the Vombatidae digs with its claws. The Vombatidae is most closely related to a Phascolarctos cinereus (koala), which also has a backward facing pouch. The Vombatidae is not quite as defenseless as they may seem. Their buttocks is extremely tough and they use it as their defense weapon, it is so tough it can even crush some predator skulls. They will dig a burrow and then block off the entrance with their buttocks. They can also run relatively as fast as a human, which is quite surprising compared to their size.
